On 1 October 2024, the ITV had the opportunity to visit the Siemens Energy gas turbine plant in Berlin. The historic turbine hall by Peter Behrens, a pioneer of modern industrial design, was particularly impressive. The hall, which was built at the beginning of the 20th century, bears witness to a long tradition in the production of turbines. Even back then, the building served as a production facility for turbines used in industry.
Today, the tradition is continued in a modern form: The world's largest hydrogen turbines are manufactured in this historic hall. Siemens Energy thus plays a key role in the energy transition and the switch to climate-friendly technologies. The visit offered exciting insights into the innovative strength and many years of engineering expertise that characterise this plant.
In order to produce the green hydrogen required for the turbines, an electrolyser production facility has also been set up at the site. During an impressive guided tour through the production line, the production of the membrane and modules could be viewed in detail.
The ITV Hannover would like to thank Siemens Energy for the guided tour and the inspiring dialogue on site.
