This research project investigates the effects of varying CO2 percentages and engine input parameters on the combustion characteristics and performance of a methane-based biogas engine with a pre-chamber. Despite the potential benefits of using biogas in pre-chamber ignition systems, comprehensive studies—particularly in the context of ultra-lean combustion—are limited. This project aims to fill this gap by combining experimental work with extended numerical simulations to simulate both premixed and partially premixed flames. By exploring the interactions between various combustion parameters while utilizing different inert gas concentrations, this research helps optimize engine efficiency, improve emissions control, and contribute to the development of sustainable energy systems.
