Exicting insights into the thermal treatment of waste and sewage sludge in summer 2025

In June and July 2025, the ITV organized two excursions focused on waste incineration. The tours included visits to the EEW (Energy from Waste) waste incineration plant and the  sewage sludge incineration facility by Enercity, both located in Hannover Lahe.

Both facilities play crucial roles in Hannover's waste management sector. The incineration of waste and sewage sludge from treatment plants helps reduce harmful substances. It also decreases the volume of waste, requiring less space in landfills. Both facilities are equipped with modern flue gas cleaning systems and collaborate with various research partners to continuously improve the processes in the plants.

Each visit began with an informative introduction to the topics of waste/sewage sludge incineration, as well as the technology used at the plants. This was followed by a guided tour of the facilities, providing participants with a comprehensive overview of the operations. Concluding the tour, there was an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to EEW and Enercity for their very friendly and detailed tours and for providing an exciting insight into a lesser-known field.
